Town to Town

Starting in 1854, settlements began springing up along the Missouri River in Northeast Nebraska. In the following decades, settlers and town builders moved westward, building communities that retain their old-time charm to this day.

From tiny towns to mid-sized cities, the communities of Northeast Nebraska offer a variety of attractions. Step back in time to the early 19th century at Fort Atkinson, the first U.S. Army fort west of the Missouri. Ride the rails through the scenic Elkhorn Valley on the Fremont Dinner Train. Laugh at a Johnny Carson monolog while perusing items donated by Carson himself at the Elkhorn Valley Museum in Norfolk. Tour one of the few remaining 19th century mills at Neligh Mills State Historic Site.

And while you’re at it, enjoy shopping, dining, bed-and-breakfast lodging and warm hospitality in our communities.
