Eastern Nebraska’s Antique Capital
With seven antique stores downtown, Fremont bills itself as Eastern Nebraska’s Antique Capital. It’s also a great place for railroad buffs and lovers of passenger trains.

Fremont Dinner Train
The Fremont Dinner Train winds through 18 miles of the scenic Elkhorn River Valley. Entertainment options include mystery trains, USO shows, dinner theater, wine tasting and seasonal shows. The train includes a dance car and a lounge car. Reservations are required. It is open year-round, Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday (May-December) 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. It is closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The office is at 650 N. Fremont Historic Visitors Center/Lincoln Highway Interpretive Center
At 605 N. Broad St., the Fremont Historic Visitors Center contains the Lincoln Highway Interpretive Center, a historic post office display and kiosk. Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area
Choose from 20 small sandpit lakes on 280 acres at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area, three miles west of town. The area is open year-round, with all services available Memorial Day through Labor Day. Activities include fishing, swimming, boating, camping and picnicking. The area has 200 electrical camping sites, 600 without electricity, and modern showers and toilets. Picnic areas, drinking water and trailer dump stations are available.

Louis E. May Historical Museum
"In 1874, Fremont’s first mayor built a 25-room Victorian mansion that today is open as the Louis E. May Historical Museum, home of the collections of the Dodge County Historical Society. The rooms are furnished in period style, and the grounds include a formal rose garden and a Victorian garden with brick-laid paths. Other exhibits include an 1868 log house, a one-room school and a general store.
The museum is open April-December, Wednesday-Sunday, 1:30-4:30 p.m. It is closed holidays, and closed Sundays in April and September-November. Admission is $3 for adults, $0.50 for children. The mansion is at 1643 N. Nye Ave. (402) 721-4515. "

Midland Lutheran College Heritage Arboretum

Nebraska Railroad Museum and Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railroad
The Nebraska Railroad Museum and Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railroad offers a 16-mile excursion in a diesel-powered train through the Elkhorn River Valley. Reservations are suggested for the two-hour journey May-October, Saturday-Sunday at 1 p.m. Caboose and group coach charters are available year-round. Vintage coach fares are $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3-12. Climate-controlled coach fares are $13 for adults, $8 for children ages 3-12. Free museum admission. 1835 N. Victory Lake/Hormel Pak
" Anglers will find bluegill, bullhead, carp, channel catfish, crappie and largemouth bass. Lakes 7 and 8 also have muskie. Gas-powered boating is allowed only on Victory Lake and Lake 20. All others allow only electric trolling motors.
The area has three swimming beaches and a lake specially redesigned for personal watercraft. (402) 727-3290.
