Norfolk is home of Johnny Carson, a famous American television host and comedian. See his legacy at the Elkhorn Valley Museum which features an exhibit of the Johnny Carson Gallery. Items in the exhibit include his Emmy awards, Kennedy Center medallion and a replica stage where you can hear one of Mr. Carson’s favorite monologues. Next stop is the Johnny Carson Mural. This large series of paintings by artist Karl Reeder, shows the progression of Johnny’s career.  This is a great spot to take a picture! Take a tour Johnny Carson’s childhood home in Norfolk.  Owner, Jim McKenzie, will speak about the history of the house and items found along the way while bringing it back to its original condition.

Enjoy outdoor scenery on the Cowboy Trail starting at Ta Ha Zouka Park. The Cowboy Trail is the longest rail-to-trail conversion in the United States, which includes a 148-foot high bridge over the Niobrara River at Valentine. Walk, run or bike the trail – it’s a beautiful way to take in the Norfolk, Nebraska area. Looking for water recreation? Enjoy kayaking or tubing down the Elkhorn River or rent a paddle boat or SUP on Skyview Lake. AquaVenture is one of the best places to spend the day with your family.

Head to Downtown Norfolk to experience local shopping, dining, and more. This area is one of the most vibrant areas in our community and is continuing to grow. Major events including Oktoberfest and Riverpoint Music Festival happen in Downtown Norfolk. The Sunset Plaza Mall is our largest retail center in the area. 

Visit our neighbors, Pierce County. Willow Creek Recreation Area is one of the most popular destinations in our area. This recreation area has a 700 acre lake for boating, swimming, fishing, hunting (waterfowl & pheasant).  It also offers 100 camping pads with electricity.  Visitors will find picnic tables, shelters, fire grates, showers, restrooms, playgrounds and an 8-mile hiking/horseback trail around the lake. Make sure to pick up food from J’s Place located in Pierce. Road trip to Plainview and visit the Klown Doll Museum.
